        Nice Discus there Ian.

When I move house, I've a mind to have a tank. I've often toyed with the idea of keeping Marine, but Discus seem a better option. Maybe you could outline the problems and cost of keeping them?

My aquarium is 4'x2'x2', it holds just short of 400 ltrs, it as 2 filters on it one external and a internal filter, 2 400 watt heaters, lighting is by led.
I have kept marine fish also, I find Discus easier but thats opinion.
It is not a cheap hobby to get good quality Discus you have to pay, my breeding pair cost me £200.
You have to do regular water changes I do 10% every other day.
I have a HMA filter unit it removes all heavy metals and chlorine from the water.

I had some discus for a while but they were always squabbling, do yours do this? perhaps it is just a cichlid 'thing' because my angel fish used to squabble as well!! :dunno: These days I am besotted with corydoras and they don't squabble. :)
          Your discus look beautiful!!!!

They squabble a little bit, it's a cichlid 'thing'.
I also have about 20 different corys, rummynose and cardinal tetras and some whiptails and a trio of peppermint plecs and a gold seam plec.

Nice Discuss! I love fish. Have a small tropical fish tank at the moment but I'm now winding it down as I'm starting up a marine tank in the new year. Hoping to set up a tank with the ultimate goal of housing a healthy Tridachna clam. It's going to be a slow and expensive journey but I'll get there.

When I kept marine I had a invert aquarium, I had 3 clams and lots of soft corals and hard corals.
I did have to do lots of regular water changes. I also had a massive electric bill as I was using a 500 watt metal halide lamp to illuminate the aquarium as it was 2' deep.

Keeping a healthy aquarium is not hard as long as you follow a few basic rules.
if you have any questions just ask

                    Hiya Ian.

                    Some more detail please?

Sounds like a lot of heat?

                      Hiya Freddy,

I use my external filter as biological filter it as a flow rate of 1400ltr per hour, which I clean out every month when I do a water change.
The internal filter I use as a mechanical filter it as a flow rate of 1000ltr per hour, which I clean when of do my water change every other day basically just cleaning the filter sponges out.
I always use aquarium water to clean my filters, then I use the waste water to water my indoor plants and in summer on my outdoor plants, cheap plant food.
I use two 400 watt heaters then there's no cold spots, one would be ok, the temperature for Discus is 82 degrees, nice and warm

                        Hiya Ian.

How do you stop solids from entering?
I'm not familiar with these. Do these help make the water acidic too? Or is your tap water ok?
                        Sorry for all the questions:)

                        Cheers...Freddy
