Hi all I hope this is the right place to put this. Im new to this I introduced myself yesterday and I said I built mother a greenhouse its also got me growing things in there as well so I thought I would show you what its like, it may give others ideas.

I built it in the first lock down having some spare time as work dried up. Father :pathd:had been buying old doors locally for a year or two, the most he ever paid was a fiver and that was for a pair of matching. I layed out and measured up the doors and worked out I could make a 10 by 16 foot greenhouse. The timber was recycled from the local builders bonfire heap its a shame what gets burnt.:nonofinger: Anyway enough talking here are some pics.

NAN_0344.JPG NAN_0358.JPG NAN_0364.JPG sorry the light was fading

    after a bit of paint

    NAN_0374.JPG bit more paint NAN_0386.JPG inside NAN_0391.JPG

I then had to set about making some shelving.

    To be continued:smile:

@Jordhandeson I used a garden door for a cold frame a few years back. Unfortunately with all of the deep freeze throughout the winters, it only lasted for about 5 years but the great thing was it was a freebie having been left at the side of the road by someone not properly disposing of it. Bad them, lucky me!

I agree with everyone, it's brilliant @Jordhandeson . I would never have thought of something like that.

Great bit of recycling @CanadianLori

When I worked there was always no end of doors and windows in the skip where we had replaced things for people.
Never did use any of it myself but always thought it would have been useful to lots of people if they only knew it was being dumped.

Father said he used to enjoy his weekly trip out to the local dump or recling centre but nowadays "the powers that be" decided you cannot :nonofinger:remove anything from the recycling centre:sad:

Yes, our recycle depots are hands off except for one fellow. They set bicycles aside for him to sort thrlugh and find ones that are still good or good to fix or just for parts. He refurbishes them and gives the bikes to the less fortunate kids in town. :)

I once grabbed an old bathroom sink from the side of the road. It was one of those old ones that look like an octagon cut in half. It still had the two taps on it. I iused it as a urinal in the outhouse at the old cottage for the fellows. Attached a pipe to the drain and ran the pipe down into the pooh pit. Saved a lot of used beer going in the septic system :heehee: and I mounted a mirror above it and a towel bar to assist tipsy users.

I made this cold frame out of two pieces of plexiglass and pvc channel.

                            Carrying on from previous

I thought about what I could use for staging we had some wooden ones and they had become quite rickety over the years, with that in mind I decided to make up some metal ones from old steel I had about the yard. I figured one for each side to start and having plenty of width I made up a centre staging.
                            NAN_0369.JPG _DC20137.JPG

I had my sister give them a couple of coats of paint.

                            _DC20188.JPG

I found we had some mesh which I thought would be good for the top and bottom shelves,

                            NAN_0394.JPG

later mother found the 50mm holes in the mesh were to big so I added some flat galvanized sheet over the mesh later. With thye staging done I turned my attention to buying an electricity heated propagator for her and was surprised at the cost of a decent size one. After seeing a few idea's on the youtube I decided to have go at making one for her. I welded up a stand to take the weight as I guested it was going to be heavy, and yes I got my sister to paint it.:yahoo:

                            stand.jpg

I then folded some 3mm galvanized sheet to make the 150mm deep holding tray,
                            _DC20169.JPG _DC20158.JPG

then fitted some 50mm thick insulation board in the base,

                            _DC20174.JPG

and covered with some builders damp proofing plastic sheeting,

                            _DC20183.JPG

then added 50mm of children's play sand, children's as it is meant to be sterilized so no germs.

                            _DC20224.JPG

I picked up a heated cable and a thermostat controller of the auction site and fitted it then added another 50mm sand over the top.

                            _DC20226.JPG

In all the excitement of getting it finished I didn't take any pics of the last stage of build. It turned out 1200mm by 1000mm, ok with the sand, cable and controller it still wasn't cheep but as I salvaged or scrounged off father the rest of the materials size wise it was very good. Now standing in the corner of the greenhouse was mothers hot bed, thinking that should give her a head start to the season, and as soon as the hot bed was finished,I started thinking I could grow some chillies and I had another idea, one thing leads to another.:heehee:

                            To be continued!!!!!

Looks good but just wondering, is opening the doors the only means of ventilation?
Also what are you going to grow?
