...yes, I am referring to the two well known foodstores chains (I always mix up their names though I confess).

The more I visit them and the more I like them! Not only because I can find re-growable lettuce in there -good taste and decent size- but a lot of food that I find in Italy.

But anyway, I have experienced that the plants/flowers in there are reliable and cheap. I even saw some coconuts in there the other day!!!

They seem to be turning up in all sorts of places these days.

I found Aldi's 35p packets of Cosmos seeds to be just as good as those costing much, much more from T&M and I get my best carrots from Lidl seeds.

I discovered Aldi and Lidl years ago when I first went part-time and my income was more than halved overnight. It was a relief to know, that with their assistance, I would still be able to afford to eat. I think they are both absoloutely fantastic.

Often good food is more expensive, but these two places are actually an exception to this rule .
Not all the products are cheap and good quality, but a good part.

As for private retailers, my rule is; mediterranean stores for fruits, vegetable and juices and lithuanian/baltic stores for pork meat and sweet products.

For those NOT disabled by the need to diet, Lidl at Christmastime (it begins in October at Lidl) the Chocolate and Ginger biscuit/cake varieties are tremendous.
The rest of the year I personally rate Aldi higher.

Of course it is nice to food shop in a Marks and Spencer from time to time, but it is a matter of fact that the average bill is three to four times higher.
