Thought I'd share progress of my garden over the past ten years!

    2010
So here it is a few months after moving in. I had read about diagonals creating the illusion of a wider garden so set about creating square lawns on the diagonal and you may just about be able to make out the netting and new areas of grass.

    2011
I added the raised beds and probably did lots of other things but I can't remember!

Then the Blue Spruce started dropping branches every time we had a strong wind. We invited a arborist to assess the tree and he said it should come down because someone had previously cut it incorrectly and it had started to rot from the inside! We were left with a stump 'table' and 'chairs' - which we never used! We also and the Hollys at the end of the garden trimmed.

We also added a summer house which was my grandfathers. It must be at least 40 years old now!

Also added a greenhouse by the raised beds.

    2015
I didn't like the straight lines and wanted a more informal look so out came the lawn edger. It made such a difference!

    2016
Then I decided I wanted to create different areas in the garden and I added the fence and arch. I also got rid of the 'chairs' - I scattered them around the garden for the wildlife.

We had some work done on the house so we lost a little bit of the first lawn to a patio and have turned the rest into a planting area for less mowing. I'll reply to this post with some more images of that! This bit took two years and I'm not done yet! I have ideas!

Hope you've enjoyed seeing the progress thus far.

I've been working on this area for a while. Being furloughed gave me the opportunity to get it finished. So end of 2017/start of 2018 this is what I had to work with!

        IMG_0046.jpeg

I set about creating the paths but then I had a mound of earth to get rid of!

        IMG_0309.jpeg IMG_0024.JPEG IMG_0381.jpeg

2019 I planted the hedging next to the paths.

        IMG_1185.JPEG IMG_1560.jpeg
And that's the way it stayed until May this year when we laid the paving slabs and then the wooden edging didn't cut it and was all off kilter!
        IMG_3105.jpeg IMG_4015.JPG
So I put some new metal edging in and then filled the gaps with self binding gravel.
        IMG_0396.jpeg IMG_3284.jpeg

It's not looking so bright and shiny after all that rain we've had recently but it does look neater!

Thanks Sheal. I didn’t do much in the first year as I wanted to experience the garden through the seasons. Also, I have to confess, I didn’t take any photos in the first year.

It's a good thing to get the feel of a garden before you start work on it and a year allows you to make discoveries, for instance all those bulbs that you didn't expect to see in Spring. Unless it was like my garden, just three tulips and a dozen or so daffodils. :heehee:

I very rarely took photo's of any of my gardens in the past until I joined GC. It makes it so much easier to record progress and to let our friends here see exactly what we're working with and have achieved. :)

I agree Sheal, it good to see what you have achieved or not with photo's.
I try and do a small/medium job each day even if it's feeding the compost bin.

@KittyHound your paths look lovely with that self binding gravel around the slabs. Doe you have to do anything special to get it to bind?

Hi Caroline, thank you! Normally you dry roll it, then wet the roller and do it again. However, I couldn't get a roller small enough for the job :heehee: so I tapped it down and then sprayed and tapped again.

Thanks Freddy! When I first joined and saw that smiley I have to confess I was a little confused as to why I was getting replies with a 'man' holding a candle! Since inserting some smileys myself I now understand! :loll: Senior moment!
