Some of you may be aware that my last car packed in. It failed its MOT so miserably that it wasn't going to be economical to repair it. Great, that gave me an excuse to buy a lovely Volvo 940 estate.

    All discussed here:
    http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/my-car-is-bust.50450/

I had a Volvo 940 before and loved her, but she had to go. I regretted getting rid of her ever since, so when my other car packed in, I got an advert out and sought out a lovely 940 with all the trimmings (leathers, aircon, turbo, heated seats etc).

    Here she is.

    Isn't she gorgeous:)

        Champion! :blue thumb:

Lovely colour, and looks really tidy. I take it that she runs as well as she looks?

She drives superb. Proper Volvo grace, nice and quiet and smooth but plenty of torque, then you press the throttle pedal down a bit more and she turns into an animal.

It was quite by accident that I discovered the 'kick down' feature, where she decides that given where I've put the throttle, I obviously want a bit more power (eg overtaking), so she knocks herself down a gear and then pins you to the seat.

I used to love my GLT for that - she would lumber around town looking and feeling every inch of the armchair on wheels, yet put it on the open road and press the loud pedal and she went like a stabbed rat.

Oddly enough, mine was pretty close to yours in colour - maybe a shade or two darker.

I wish you the best of health and happiness in running her :blue thumb:

Took her out today. She's all dirty again now. I'm in danger of developing OCD with this one. I've even bought actual car shampoo (all my other cars were lucky if they got washing up liquid in the water when getting their bath). I've even bought a chamios leather and she's getting her own towel.

Doesn't. I had a 940 before, dear old Helga. She got the same treatment. Unfortunately she retired when a change of job meant a daily commute totalling 100 miles (unaffordable in a big car) and when I went to reinstate her role I found she had developed a number of expensive faults so I let her go. I regretted that decision ever since. I work local now and intend to start cycling to work, so the car will now become the leisure and shopping machine, ie much less demand on fuel, hence the replacement for old Helga. This one (as yet unnamed) is higher spec than dear old Helga, who was a base model. This one is Helga plus all the trimmings. I haven't named this one yet, but pondering. I have a shortlist so far. She will either be called Agnetha, Gotilda, or Sonjia.
