    Hello everybody.
Apart from my unpaid school-summer holiday job helping my dad out by sweeping up while he did gardens I am a complete beginner, but one hell of a sweeper-up. :thumb:

I first got into gardening because I received a letter from the people I rent my house from basically saying "tidy it up or get out." This despite the fact that it was in the same condition when I moved in.

I'm sure somebody would ask how bad a state it was in so here are 2 pictures. I don't know the rules regarding posting pictures so you'll have to make do with the links.
    Picture 1
    Picture 2

Those, as I'm sure you'll be relieved to hear, are the before pictures and it's much nicer now. Actually now it's just soil because all I did was dig it.

I will be floating around the forum for a while to learn as much as I can to help me improve the garden. My aim with my garden is to attract as many birds to it as I can to be honest, I like the sound of them and I like to watch them play about.

I feel I've written too much already so I'll come to a close. My hobby is writing so I tend to write and write until I've said all I can. (Edit: in hindsight I didn't write as much as I thought.)

Hiya HBK and welcome to GC.

Eek to your garden ... looks like mine 12 years ago but with perseverence and too much hard work it's now a tropical/sub-tropical garden ... but I know you don't want to do that with a rental property.

I have been away from the UK for nine years now (from Bucks and the IoW) so others who are still there will come and assist you with your needs ... however, it would be of great and valuable assistance to you if you say where you are located ... small but big detail most folk leave out.

    Enjoy the forum.

Hello HBK and welcome to the forum. You could have claimed it was a wild garden :lollol:, they are all the vogue at the moment and the birds would have liked it more than bare soil. Anyway now you've cleared it for your unenlightened landlords perhaps you could plant to encorage the birds. How long are you going to be there?

Chances are I'll be moving in a year and half which doesn't necessarily mean I don't want to work hard on it. I might as well leave it nice for whomever gets the house after myself.
Yeah I plan to plants some....erm, plants that the birds will like. So far I've planted about 40 flax seeds (accidentally, I threw a handful to the birds, they didn't care and the seeds sprouted) and I'll be looking around for others the birds might take to.

And yes, it was an incredible haven for birds when the weeds were still there. I'd wake up every day to see the garden a flood of sound and twitchy movement from small birds I can't identify.

Good evening HBK and welcome to the site. If that`s how the garden was when you moved in, then the owners should give you a month rent free, that is disgusting.:gnthb:
