my keyboard is playing trix ...... no at sign

HELP
i am trying to type an 'at' sign and all i get is"
also the key on the right which is a kind of smoke exhaled sign is typing |

Hi, Lady Gardener. Do you have a new keyboard? Perhaps it is foreign? I have a Portuguese keyboard but English mapping on it. It actually shows the @ sign on my number 2 key but it's actually on the key to the right of my little finger using the shift key, which is where it would be on an English keyboard.

 

Hi Lady Gardiner. Sounds like you have an English keyboard, but the computer is assuming an American layout. In windows 98 you can change the assumed layout with Start/Settings/Keyboard/Language. If you have windows XP it may be a bit differant - but the principle is the same.

LofL, if you want the screen to coincide with the keys, I would be inclined to ask for Portugese mapping - if you are a see-typist like me, rather than a touch-typist.

 

Hi, PeterS. I was going to give the instruction you gave above but backed down not knowing why system she was on! No, I prefer to use English mapping as I am a touch typist! :D :D

 

hm, well its sorted itself thank goodness, no idea what went wrong!
ps i use the scottish keyboard, so when i type yes it comes out as aye,
