The sparrows commenced nesting activity early last month when they started cleaning out the nest box. We usually clear out the old nests ourselves but didn't get around to it during this winter.
Now the box has been cleaned up Mr and Mrs House Sparrow have started refurnishing and must now be close to finishing the job as they are currently adding fine grasses and the odd feather.
There was an old pigeon nest in the pear tree and we've been amused watching a pair of jackdaws sorting through it and taking twigs away for their own nest. A fine example of recycling!
The sparrow in the photo is one of last year's youngsters. It can't be seen in the photo but he's got a very distinctive white stripe on one wing and has stood out from the considerable crowd since he fledged.

Smashing photo Dave. Sadly, I haven't seen a single House Sparrow in my garden this Winter.
