New allotment rotten apple tree

    Hi we have just taken on an allotment and have zero experience we noticed this on the base of our apple tree. Can anyone advise on what it is please. Thank you

          I'm not sure but it looks to me like the rootstock is putting out extra roots above ground.

          I'm guessing due to the wet weather of late, I think it's something that will sort itself out when things dry up a bit.
