    Hi,

Looking at the photo in your other post, the existing joists will be fine.

You will need to raise the fascia boards to accomodate the extra 9mm of the new decking boards.

You may have to cut the last decking board down its length to fit the final gap, which is better up against the house wall rather than the garden end.

You can get Tan coloured decking screws which will be better looking than the silver ones; using a string line and a diy board drilling template will help keep them looking even.

This page has a complete run down of decking , including spacing etc.

Thanks for your reply the existing joist is 3 x 2 inch with fasica at 84mm x 19mm the same as the boards.
How can a 120mm fasica fit on to a 3 x 2 inch joist won't there be 36 mm difference

      Thanks

You will have to cut the board to fit , if you want the Fascia to match the new Decking.

Easy enough with a half decent saw, the decking grooves acting as an easy guide.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I have trouble in cutting a 1 meter board let along a 11 foot board due to my health would it not be easier to put in bigger joist
To accommodate 120 mm decking fasica
        Thanks

Why cant the fascia drop below the thickness of the joists?
Or have I got the wrong end of the stick.

Can you get a local joinery to rip a board down for you, 10 second job.

You need to cut 27mm off the 120mm board, you forgot the 9mm extra thickness of the new board.

Replace all the joists !! - think I would get some decking the same thickness as the orignal then you dispense with these problems ?

As @pete says , many timber merchants / woodyards will cut things to size for you.

The alternative is hire or buy a small circular saw, a few to buy around the £40 mark.

Perhaps if you mention what general area you are in there might be some regular GC member nearby who can help you out ?

I agree with @pete . If you want a piece cut to a certain size, pop along to your local joiner company.

Do you have a big enough gap between the left hand side of the decking and the sleepers to easily remove and refix a new vertical board to suit the increased thickness of the new decking? Or get a hacksaw/metal cutting reciprocating saw blade/angle grinder in there to remove existing screws?

Many thanks for your advice I was thinking of what type of screw would be best and how many per board as the decking was a decking kit from edeck and the screws when removed where breaking alot this is why I put different screws in which come to over 200.
There is not enough space between the decking and the flower beds to put in new boards of a different size without cutting the joist down.
I get my decking online at edeck and as far as I have seen they only cut length and not wide to size.
I cannot go down to local joiner as I have only a small mobility car.
I can't use anything like a electric saw as I am all ways cutting my self with a hand saw so concerned over serious injury.
                Thanks for your help

If the screws keep breaking try using a clearance hole in the deck board first, if you aren't already.
                Bloody Chinese screws.
