New fronds on young tree fern

    Even in frozen Yorkshire, spring has sprung. 3 fronds have appeared on my young tree fern. Last year the first one appeared at the beginning of June.:D

    wow i always wanted a tree fern ever since seeing the ones at ventnor botanic gardens (got a bit of publicity because they got stolen :( )

    Be brave Dee. Open it up. They are quite hardy. I unwrapped mine 3 weeks ago.

    I will John, The next warm day we have, supposed to be thundery tomorrow, tut.. 3 weeks ago, you have the same weather as us, dont you? ooh cant wait now john..

    We are right on the coast Dee and about 60miles south About 7-10 days difference. Go for it.

    8 yes 8, new fronds, woohoo, and a huge slug:(

    One question, shall i cut the old fronds off, there not bad, couple of brown tips which ive cut off..:cool:

    Leave them for the moment. They will act as protection 'cos you know what our weather is like.

    Slinky, you are nearly right, when they are just emerging, like John`s, they are called croziers. When they are fully unfurled they are called fronds.:thumb:

    David I think I will continue to say 'My fronds are unfurling'. I can't really learn 'My croziers are here.' Too complicated by half.;)

    I would keep the old fronds on, as long as possible, it all adds to the photosynthasis! The new fronds look very twisted, were they all wrapped up inside fleece?
