    Hi All,

We've just bought our first house and are very excited to have a south facing garden with lots of room for planting. The house has been a rental property for a number of years, so unfortunately there are a lot of raised beds that have fallen apart/become overrun with weeds and we're hoping to restore them to their former glory!

Unfortunately, we don't have that much experience with gardening and I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me identify which are flowers and which are weeds in these pictures of one of my raised beds. Also any general advice about planting/removing weeds would be great too, this raised bed in particular has part shade in the mornings as it is under what I believe is a Hazel Tree.

Wow, thanks so much for your help - I've got myself a project for a sunny day now!

Perhaps someone might be able to help me identify these too - we are particularly confused by the bush-looking plant, when we moved in it appeared to be dropping strange fruit, we're wondering if it could be two plants together or if the fruit was just there by coincidence as it's now got pink flowers!

Welcome Jordon. :) Close up images of leaves, flowers and any fruit/berries will help us to identify plants easier please. Many plants look the same at a distance.

There's an Acanthus leaf and some bindweed coming through from the neighbour.

Hello Jordon, welcome to GC! Spruce has it spot-on for the first photos, but tactfully didn't mention the bindweed. That's a horror, and pulling it out won't get rid of it. May I suggest that you arm yourself with 3 or 4 small jars and some glyphosate concentrate. Round-Up is one brand but read the ingredient list on the label carefully. There are impostors.
Half-bury the jars in the soil. Untangle the bindweed stems as much a possible from the other plants and stuff them into the jars. Carefully pour the weedkiller (diluted with water 40ml to a litre of water) to 3/4 fill the jars. Then leave them alone for 6 weeks. The weedkiller will travel right down to the roots of the plant and kill it without harming anything else. After six weeks, don your Marigolds and dispose of the residue and jars carefully. It's a bit of a faff, but I promise you it will work :)
Your second batch of photos look like a Jasmine and a Chaenomeles (Japanese Quince).
