Two new gardening series are beginning tonight on BBC2 - Christine's Garden and Gardener's Year. No sign of Monty Don (oh well he did win Celebrity Mastermind last night. His specialist subject was the Beatles so now I see him in a different light.
I'll be watching these new programmes tonight so if anyone else catches them we could share our views.

    Hi petal,
i watched both of these. I liked Christine's garden, it's good to see someone with an ordinary house and garden, and apparently limited resources.
Gardener's year gave a good look at some smelly winter shrubs which I've been pondering about, and I liked his advice about sweet peas, except I shall use loo rolls instead of the bought cells he used.

I watched and enjoyed both - and there should be a wallet warning on the Gardening Year :D . I just gotta have that sarcocca ruxifolia - now just to find one. And I must build up the numbers of hellebores I have, and replace my dead daphne mezareum.

No doubt the list will be added to as the programme continues.

Gardeners World with Monty Don will be back in a few months as normal.

I watched both progs too. Enjoyed the 'down to earth' approach of Christine.
Have been researching 'fragrant winter shrubs' just now, so was able to recognise the ones Mr Titchmarsh mentioned. Am sooo looking forward to starting my new job as a gardener on Jan 9th, so have been doing quite a bit of research of my garden books, so these 2 programmes have started at just the right time for me!

As usual with the BBC there is a book to accompany the series Gardeners Year. They were giving it away to anyone spending £50 or more in the BBC shop in Norwich pre Christmas. My garden certainly could do with a few winter shrubs - everything is looking sad and sorry for itself after all the snow. The only things bright and cheerful are the primroses and winter pansies. I feel another new year resolution coming on............!

Ooh! Missed both these! Did spot Titchy in a new hat burbling about planting sweet peas in root trainers though. Missed that as well! :(

Watched them both, and absoltley loved the real world type gardening of the Christines Garden she has a great use of the English vocabulary :D . I found alan titchy's programe the a little boring and some what samey of the sort of thing we've come to expect from the producers of these type of gardening programes we see year in year out, I also found it to be somewhat confusing  started the program in November then switched to and from differant months. As it's entitled Gardener's Year I would have thought that it may have made sense to have had a programe per month proberbly to cover the next months work and planing and made the show an hour long. Just my personal opion of course ;)

    Happy New Weed puller

hi Weed puller - agree with you about the Titch, would have been much more logical to go month by month (& to have started in January, as they presumably knew when they were to screen it). Hope you have better look with the Sarcocca Liz & Fran - I can't smell them! - I do envy people that can! (PS - I've posted a survey & would be grateful if you folks could take part - its for my course - ta!)
