Hi, I'm Kevin - I'm the North East - brrr!. I joined just on the basis of SteveR's polytunnel posts. I'm hoping that mine will arrive by the end of feb. I'm looking for polytunnel management posts to get the most out of the p/t space. I'm looking forward to reading more posts in the p/t section. See you there!

      Hallo Kevin H,
you're in good polytunnel company here on GC. So much to look at on all aspects of gardening.
Have you had to do a lot of preparation on the site ? I would imagine, anything, both welcome and unwelcome, will want to live and grow in that tunnel. I will be interested to see how it develops,
      good luck,
      Jenny namaste

Thank you for your kind replies - I do appreciate it very much.
I'll be answering your queries, etc, as I tend to put more in than I take out of any given forum. Cheekiness and fun along the way is always good!
(btw thanks to the admin to have a nice, large, clear font for posting etc and also for hosting as it's not free)

Welcome to GC forums, Kevin :sign0016:

I'm not a PT gardener but I do sometimes think I may one day go down that route.
Looking forward to getting to know you around the forums :dbgrtmb:

:sign0016: Welcome aboard Kevin and good luck with the polytunnel; I failed miserably with my poly attempts, and ended up trading myself up to a greenhouse for this year, so I will watch your progress with interest.

Sorry to hear that, FC. Did you post why it failed? If not, any chance of a quick idea as to why, *please*?

It wasn't a complete failure in fairness, as I did manage a half decent crop of cucumbers from it as well as some peppers and tomatoes - but, it was a blowaway type (not one of the 'proper' ones that SteveR has), and basically the zips failed at both ends within a very short space of time. I ordered a replacement from a different supplier, and on the very day that I put it up, the zip failed, so it was repacked and sent back. I kinda took the huff at this point, and being a stubborn old goat, I then went off and decided to sort it for once and for all - so I treated myself to a double-door, four opening roof vent, 10 x 8 Eden greenhouse with a 20yr guarantee.

There is a couple of threads somewhere that you would turn up on a search.

Ahh, thanks, FC; I appreciate your time to post. Words of wisdom, too. I shall try to have a plan in action as I know the p/t I will get will be inferior due to its cheap cost but it will be a leg-in and a cheaper learning-curve.

They are definitely a great leg-in, but be warned - you WILL get hooked one way or another! You will almost certainly move on to either a more expensive poly or to a greenhouse simply because you've got the bug.

You'll find the same with this forum too - everyone is so friendly and helpful, and we have such a good giggle you will just find yourself coming back day and daily.

One suggestion, if I may be so bold - consider making a wooden framed door for your poly (there are a few posts on here that will show you how, or I'm sure someone will tell you how) - that way you would avoid the pitfalls of the zips.

Oh, and if you can, dig the sides into the ground to hold the poly taught and down to the ground - that wasn't a possibility for me as mine was on a patio.

I'll try and dig up the greenhouse thread, bear with me.

FC, on the basis of your very kind reply, I've started a PolyTunnel diary - and be as bold as you like! Thanks again for your time to post and help.
(e2a: thanks for the wooden door idea - it will help no end with the security of the p/t - plus I like modding!.)
