I bought four bare root rose bushes during the winter. One of them is not doing well. In spring it looked fantastic, green leaves and lots of buds. However, the buds never opened and the leaves started to yellow. I Googled and determined it might be "rust". I treated with Rose Clear and removed the bad leaves and buds. I then got a few nice flowers out if it and it seemed to recover. However, the yellowing keeps returning. I've now treated three times with Rose Clear but the whole bush looks pretty dead now, as pictured. Any ideas if this is a disease I can treat, or if perhaps it just doesn't like being in the container? Should I cut it back completely i.e. give up on it for this year? Thanks in advance for any advice, I'm a novice gardener.

Do you know which variety of rose you have @LuckyTurnips? Also, a close-up image of the foliage would be helpful, I think.

BTW, welcome to the forum! :)

        Thanks for the welcome :)

It's a "scentimental" rose. Red with white swirls.

A floribunda rose which is said to be hardy with good disease resistance!

Good morning @LuckyTurnips and welcome my friend ,I would say it looks like the soil ,the roots don't like it,it hasn't been pruned correctly, try the finger nail test just lightly scrape some of the canes to see if they are green underneath,if it were my rose I would cut it back tidy it up and then re-pot it using John innes No 3 just my opinnion of course.

If you need any advice or questions answered just ask my friend:smile::blue thumb:

          Lets ask ourselves some questions;)
1.Has the container got holes in the bottom to allow adequate drainage
it should be raised from the ground little
          2,Is your Rose planted firmly
3.how much sun in hours does your Rose get per day
4.what is the size of your container
5.Are you feeding it to much
          6.It could be overwatering

          Scentimental
Floribunda. Red, white stripes. Flowers striped burgundy and white, or cream, or red, opening quickly. Mild to strong, damask, rose, spice, opinions vary fragrance. Hi

Thanks for the reply. Gosh that's strange if it doesn't like the soil because it was thriving and full of buds at the beginning of spring.
