Hi there. I’ve been gardening, from what it seems like, since I got my first smart phone some 14 years ago. Funny how there’s so much fewer picture memories of life in the garden before digital really took over the world!! Did my progression through B&Q etc, to proper local garden centres, to online, to let’s try this grow from seed thing and see what’s possible otherwise. Fair to say, there’s hits and misses, but invaluable learning through trying to see basically what you can get away with the growing conditions you’re stuck with. Stuck with, in geographical terms, in an Arwen-ravaged bit of the UK, which is fun and challenging even when it’s not tossing cloches through the air like crisp packets. As we enter the winter months, it’s good that independent forums such as this still exist, keep up the good work.

Welcome to the forum @Malus Aforethought

Winter is a great time for planning if nothing else. We need to be ordering seeds early this year as so many new gardeners are trying their luck at growing since the pandemic. The online seed company I use is struggling to keep up with demand, they are saying 5 weeks.

Thanks all. It’s true about the online seed places compared to pre-pandemic. Got in quick with my order this year after delays in 2020. At least we can lay hands on seed compost this year more readily.

Hello and welcome to GC @Malus Aforethought
I've still got a few things to do in the garden but haven't got round to it. Also I always order seeds online and early. Some of the varieties have sold out already.

Cheers Logan. I got my order in August and, bar the veg, have them in at the usual locations we always default to - Xmas is always an estate battle for sill use!!

And great that the colder weather now allows for stratification outside for those not showing face yet. Even more sill space freed up…

Welcome to the forum! I can certainly understand how it is to deal with cold winters. And it just makes the warmer seasons that much more precious :)

Welcome to Gardeners Corner Malus Aforethought. :)

I'm guessing you're a little further south than I am and surprisingly Arwen was better behaved here. I hope it didn't cause you too much disruption.

Aberdeen area, Sheal. The garden escaped any real carnage. Remarkably, had a delivery of bare root stuff on the day Arwen hit, just took it into the house and took it out to plant on Tuesday. A worrying gale again last night but everything new still in the ground. On the list for the roofer, must be about 97th to get done by end of today!!

Ah Aberdeen, we're 100+ miles apart. I've only lived in Scotland 5 years and yet to visit your area.

You were lucky with the plants but by what you say not so lucky with your roof. I hope it get's sorted out soon.
