Hiya. I got pointed here by my brother, AL n. Just looking around for information on acer
s etc... repotting them and feeding.
We have not long had an extension done, and the garden needed a complete overhaul, and we are going for containers as we have got rid of the borders etc. Total hard landscaping with patio, flags etc, and we are finishing it off at the mo. I have already got a few established plants, Acer, some other green bush type thing, Cordyline etc, and have added 4 Bamboos in big pots and a palm of some description. I have already repotted the acer as it was pot bound after having it 10 years.
We want to add some more structural plants, not too big, but with a european feel to it. Something with a bit of impact and structure. They need to be good for pots etc... any ideas??

What a delightful courtyard...:wub2:. How about an hydrangea trained up against a wall and grown horizontally?

        Hiya Simon.

I think I'd be tempted to take up one of the slabs, and plant a tree of some sort? That should give you more scope:blue thumb:

Hi Simon. Welcome to GC and what a gorgeous garden. Two plants we had in big pots when we were in London were a tree fern and a japanese willow. Not particularly european but looked great on our patio area.

It's not as easy as you would think!!!:dunno::snork: As you need something that won't overpower the present garden and plants. keep tidy, keep it's shape and not sprawl, while also being of some interest for a good portion of the year.:hate-shocked: then you can throw in personal taste just for Luck!!!:heehee:

You might want to think ab0ut Fatsia, Osmanthus Burkwoodii, Pieris, Sambucus, Ribes, Photina, Leycesteria, Garrya:scratch::snork:

Welcome to GC Simon:dbgrtmb:....Some Phormiums would look good and there's some dramatic grasses that would do well in containers:thumbsup:

Bay is quite happy in a large pot, and has the bonus of being an evergreen with a slightly 'mediterranean' look about it.
Another suggestion; the plant on the right in this photo is my Yucca filamentosa 'Golden sword'. Keeps its bright colours right through the year and quite happy in a large pot.

Thanks! The Cannas will be going in black pots around the opposite edge. The new furniture is grey and black, so should look ok together. will get some more pics up tomorrow when they arrive....
