Newspaper Plants pots..a new method

New as in new to me, I've seen the rolled newspaper pots before...but these are square...worth a look and worth bookmarking.

Excellent idea- thanks Steve. The more you learn about gardening the more you realise that you don't have to spend a lot of money.

For larger pots (not for seedlngs) I always mix compost, sand and an equal amout of soil from the garden. Not only is is cheaper using soil, but the mixture is called John Innes and people pay large amounts for bags of this premixed combination of compost,sand and soil

I've had a bash at newspaper pots in the past, along with the old toilet roll tube ones. I had exactly 0% success rate because the paper/cardboard went mouldy. I know logically that means it was too wet, but the compost was merely kept moist. Where might I have been going wrong?

 

Nothing paper rots,
The mould will not affect your seedlings even for edible produce

 

I'm certainly no expert, but would it be lack of ventilation that caused this or inadequate air circulation?
