If they are as warty as they look in the pics they could be Great Crested N!ewts but not clear. There doesn't appear to be a crest on either so they are probably females.
As you may know, they are protected by law and a licence is required just to pick them up!

They are Great Crested Newts, there are a lot in the village. We had them at our old house in the village too :dbgrtmb: they are the sweetest things, I'd been quite worried about them as I hadn't seen any for a while, I'm dead chuffed to have seen them again :hapydancsmil:

We always have lots of newts 2 types and this year is no exception. I think newts have a liking for ponds with a shallow weedy area as well a deep pockets of water. My neighbour with a much bigger pond (i am not jealous ) has no newts but lots of frogs. His is deep everywhere no shallow area I have feeling newts may not like this. Last night (torch) there were lots of them so good to see.

Ponds are great fun usually something going on. Can be a bit noisy during the frog courting season. Not suitable with small people I fenced ours off during the grandchildren era. I use a torch at night from the house to the pond as newts and frogs can be anywhere. Great photo by the way.
