Nicandra physalodes Shoofly Plant, Apple of Peru 'Black Pod' A few of these turned up in compost out of an old heap, I thought they were weeds but kept one to identify it. Flowers are short lived (2 days or so) but fully opened they are up to 2.5" across and there's a good succession through out summer. Plant is up to 4 foot tall. I've harvested some pods with loads of seeds in that are now nicely dried and rattling so if anybody would like to try something a little different e-mail me and I'll give my address to send an SAE to. First 6 to reply will get a pod so get cracking! Fruit body: [ With the papery calyx pushed back showing the berry inside: [ 17. December 2005, 12:07 PM: Message edited by: frogesque ]
