Nice Little Find

My wife's friend asked me to tidy her garden up for her, so this morning I went round and did the job, mainly weeding (lots of it), its a large garden and the bottom end was carpeted in thousands and thousands of sycamore seedlings, growing from seed fallen from a huge overhanging specimen on some waste ground behind her garden. Amongst all the seedlings I found two variegated ones so I saved them and thought I'd grow them on to see how they get on

Wouldn't it be lovely if it grew like that. Could you "dwarf" it by keeping it pot bound?

I know how much fun you have in developing things from seeds/cuttings/natural sprouts. Best of British and I do hope it grows 'true' for you

 

I'm hopeful that it will retain the variegation Jenny, even those tiny new leaves which are orange/pink are showing the same markings Only time will tell how vigorous the tree is

 

You can 'bonsai' any tree, Jenny.

Absolutely Jenny, hopefully it will settle in to its pot and grow on ok, its been 10 hours now since I removed it from the ground with all its little roots and there's been no wilting so fingers crossed

 

Not sure Annie , I may see how it grows first, I have the space for one or two trees so this could be one of them

I do have a nice hawthorn bonsai though that I'm growing from a seedling and thats been a fun project so you never know

 

Would it be possible to patent it, name it, propagate it and market it? Or is that process too expensive for an amateur gardener?

Just wondering in general, really.

Lot of my containerised plants are effectively bonsai'd - I root prune them every couple of years and put them back in the same pot.

What an interesting video. It has inspired me to look around the garden to see if I have any plants I can use this way.
