Is there such a thing as a fertiliser or pellets that can be spread on the top of the soil, without having to dig it in?

I would say all fertilisers can be sprinkled on the soil surface the rain will wash it in best done late Feb early March as the plants come into growth, make sure you check how much per meter/foot etc and dont over sprinkle ....be careful when appplying to keep off folliage as it may damage leaves new shoots ...

That's news to me! Everything I've ever read about potatoes has said that the fertilizer/compost needs to be applied down where the tubers are planted.

I don't grow veg , and very rarely dig . I use GrowMore fertiliser , just lightly raked into the top 2". When planting I mix a pinch of slow release fertiliser ( 100 and thousands type ), in the hole .
I do like fish blood and bone (FBB ) as a slow fertilizer , but if you have a dog they think you have planted sausages , and they dig for victory :wagtail::biggrin:

My no dig veg patch is ready....except for the fertiliser. Fish blood and bone will be “tickled” into the surface a couple of weeks or so before seed sowing.
My feeling is fertiliser needs to be at least slightly covered or nitrogen will be lost to the atmosphere.
So fumanchu....no for me just sprinkled on the surface :)

This all helps, thanks. I thought it all had to be dug in, and if I do that then I'll disturb all the stuff that's just getting ready to come through. It's for flowers not veg.

I just chuck the dried stuff onto the surface and assume the rain will wash it into the ground. Seems to work.
