Can't see how you can plant them without digging?

I assume you just plant the tubers in a hole and then top dress with manure/compost as the plants grow.

I know one member @Steve R practices no dig, he hasn't posted for a while and I'm not sure if he does spuds. I'm sure it could be done with a lot of compost or maybe grown under landscape fabric. Slugs might be a problem with shallow planting.

My grandmother had a friend from southern Ukraine who was very surprised to see that in Finland you actually dig and turn the soil on the veg patch.

In her native Ukraine they just poked a hole in the soil, dropped in a seed spud and harvested crops in the autumn.

Presumably the soil and the climate are somewhat different down there. :)

If you grow them in a tub you won't have to dig. Its something I am thinking about trying next year.

Hi all, No Dig is an awesome choice and method to grow just about anything and I now mostly grow all my veg "No Dig". Potatoes can be grown no dig style but I prefer to grow mine in 30 litre buckets.

The holes at the base are enlarged to let the roots out into the soil so they can chase nutrients and water outside the bucket and this works well for me.

A recent harvest of three buckets in November...

                        Steve...
