    Hi
Thanks for letting me join the group.
First question, I can't source horticultural grit locally to place on top of my seedlings, can I use vermiculite?

Hello @Bev22 and welcome to GC
You can use vermiculite to cover seeds but I'm not sure about seedlings.

Hello Bev22, welcome to GC! The lack of horticultural grit over here has been a bugbear for years. I recently had a 'Paul on the road to Damascus' moment, when I realised that the gravier the councils use to resurface roads and chemins is the same thing. So, in theory, a local quarry could supply it. If no joy there, your Mairie might spare you a few kilos from their stock. Ask for 'gravier de voirie' :-)

Hi Bev, welcome to gardeners corner.
I use vermiculite to lightly cover my seeds. It helps to maintain a warm humid atmosphere for the seeds, whilst letting through plenty of light. It's also sterile so reduces the chance of any unwanted fungus growth.
