Another memory of school days - having to cover all books in brown paper. Did the manufacturer of brown paper have some sort of deal with the schools?

another memory of childhood.i would only be about 4 or 5 years old. the blast walls they had built at the entrance of the tenement buildings! .these were built to stop the blast of any bombs that would drop onto our street. the bombs never hurt us,the wall did. as being children we kept forgetting the wall was there.many a sore face i got running into the wall!!! music

    We all remember it well.
That must have been the year the sea froze in Ramsgate habour and you could walk to end of Margate pier over the sea ice if you judge the tide correctly!

I remember missing that winter :hehe:. I sailed from Southampton on Dec 10th 1962 just as the snow started and didn't get back until the first thaw in Feb '63. There was still snow on the ground but the worst was over. I then sailed again just as the snow came down heavily and froze the country once more. By the time I returned the worst was over :gnthb:.

I've been reading this with interest and I remember the outside loos with newspaper and the tin bath tubs once a week and jellies setting on the outside windowsill ..... but woo just hit a chord with me ...

The winter of 1962/63 I walked to school in snow knee deep in Luton and then in July emigrated to the States for the second time (Alabama this time) and went to college in September and the temp was 100oF .... contrast or what?
