Transplanted this 5’ English Oak a few weeks ago. Nothing catastrophic has happened but it was (and still is) covered in buds that aren’t showing any signs of opening.

One bud has come off and there’s no evidence of green leaf inside. Should I be worried? 71EC6A09-27AA-438E-A432-BABA3BD93945.jpeg
Plenty of what appears to be new growth on the ends of branches but otherwise no signs of life. 6868FE05-3F95-44DB-990D-3F0594BC588A.jpeg
Planted in an open space, full sun all day, regular watering (e 2 days or so), cleared ground around the base of the trunk, plenty compost in the hole.

Depends on your location, around us in the south, oak aren't yet in leaf, think it is another week or two before they start. Where are you Duncan ? Look around your local area, are the mature oaks coming out yet?

They are variable, even in the same location.

Round here both the oak and the ash are leafing up nicely.

IMO. Obviosly the transplantation has interrupted the natural cycle. Apart from that, without a physical exammination of the subject. Leave well alone and let nature take it's course. Bare in mind. Often is similar cases a whole season/terma can pass before th plant self adjusts.

            :fingers crossed:
I’ve begun to think as much - two smaller oaks are producing new soft buds but the one in question is still paused. Hopefully the deer don’t ringbark it before next year
