      It's been a problem for several years, Mike, where there are local infestations in London and the surrounding areas. They're nasty if you come into contact with them:hate-shocked::sofa:

      It's the same here with both oaks and pines being infested with processionary caterpillars and box being totally decimated. There is a solution, though. Literally. Bacillus thuringiensis is a bacterium which only affects caterpillars, not other forms of wildlife. It is a powder which is mixed with water and sprayed on as a prevention or cure and it does work. It's NOT a chemical and so, for the moment, is easily available.
