    You are right, mira, but I find it very strange a newcomer puts up such a pic on first posting ... the common names are rather interesting to say the least.

    Thanks for your help people.
    Twas quite a first post.

    I fill you in some more details.
    My band play regually at a hotel called Goldstone hall. They are famed for their fantastic gardens and use many of their own produce in the food they make.
    They had loads of these odd things in their flower displays on our last few visits.
    I asked the owner what they were and she had no idea. One of them had come to them in a flower display and she had taken out the seeds and grown loads of them in her greenhouse.
    I bet her I could find out what they were, if i win then my band become resident band at the hotel!! I should just say I know nothing about gardening so you could tell me anything and id belive you!
