Sorry , I,m sure this has been covered, but, we have six oleander,s that I have grown from cuttings, they are big & bushy, but are now getting leggy, should I wait till end of summer to prune them, if so how hard can I cut them back. They are covered in flower buds at the moment, so would lose the flowers if I pruned now , two are lovely yellow one,s.
    Thanks for help Sue

Hello Sue and welcome to GC.

I don't know that I know you from any Portuguese forums .. but perhaps I do ...

I am going to 'assume' you are talking about your Oleanders here in Portugal ... Alentejo the region above me in Algarve? If that is the case, there is no way you should prune them now as they are just coming into blooming season. Pruning here is always after flowering. You say you have 'yellow ones'? .. can you show pictures of them? I ask this because the only 'yellow' Oleanders I know are actually Thevetia peruvianas which I do not think would survive in Alentejo .. I am struggling with mine (but mine are peach coloured) here in Algarve.

If I can help further with any of your plants, please let me know. :)

      Oleander

Thanks Victoria, yes we are in Portugal, east of Portalegre near Spanish border, & we are on 'expat focus' as well, we both enjoy our gardening , thought this would be useful & an interesting site to belong to.
We have an enclosed back garden, but the front is open to all weather, but yes we have three yellow one,s that I have grown from cuttings, as well as pinks & white. all in flower at the moment, will send a picture when I can work out how!!!
I just put cutting,s in a glass of water in summer & they root very easily, must stop doing it though, running out of space!
      Many thanks again Sue

      Hi again Sue

I have had a look around the web and found the yellow oleander which is apparently popular in the States. There appears to be a lovely double one which is more scented than others. I shall have to have a look here for it ... not that I have room either!

I find ExpatPortugal far more informative that ExpatFocus. :WINK1:

          Here we go, Sue ...

That is lovely ... and I can almost smell it from here if we have a northeasterly wind! I definitely have not seen that colour down here but will keep my eyes open for sure. I've got a couple of massive garden centers nearby so I'll check with them next time I visit.

It would be Pina in Lagoa or Giga where I would check as they are equadistant from me.

That's very kind of you. xx
