White fluffy stuff, dont sound good.
But it should be showing flower buds now, which could possibly look fluffy. A picture would help.

Hi LINDY2 Sounds like Mealybug.. get some methylated spirit on a cotton buds and dab the affected area, and wipe them off. You can spray it on, a little handsprayer fits the meth. bottle.... how convenient, lol... there is a good product out, called Pest Free made by PBI called Provado it's a systemic and works on in and out door plants. Just added to compost and water in. Enter Provado and website comes up PBI Home and Garden, then enter your post code, see who sells it near you, ok. We all got free sachets dished out at last Gardening Club.
