..let's think back to lovely summer days out in our locality.
If I was a tourist then share some of the best places near to you to visit.

Nearest and dearest to me is the lovely city of Winchester, it's still has that feel of its past and has kept its history alive.

To view the city from a distance then a stroll / hike up St Catherine's Hill is a must....it's so peaceful up there.

Good old King Alfred stands proud the far end of the city and is not far from the Cathedral.

Thank you so much Upsydaisy for starting this thread. Without doubt many members and friends will, I am sure will eagerly remember and relate their memories. I certainly will.

 

Anglesey Abbey looks a fab place to visit, I absolutely love trees with unusual/ textured bark. Great pics, especially the 7th one in your 1st post and the 2nd and 3rd ones in your 2nd post....and of course all the snowdrops, they are always a winner!!!!

Love and support the NT, they do such a marvellous job of preserving our history and maintaining many stunning properties and their grounds for us all to enjoy.

 

Well, I am bringing you over to Portugal and my favourite area ... The Arrabida Natural Park in the Sado region about 2-1/2 hours from us. A few years ago we actually looked to buying up there but we love our home and it is easy access but we usually stay a few nights in one of the Pousadas. There is a pod of Dolphins that live and breed there.

Another place for a great walk,and we are very fortunate as it's just around the corner from us is the lovely River Itchen. There are many places where you can join it, you can from St Catherine's Hill too which is in my first post.

Brambridge is a good place too to start a walk along it, you will pass Alpacas and Emu in the neighbouring fields..and there is also a great Garden Centre too!!

I remember running along the Itchen when I was a student in the mid 80's often used to go across the Itchen round through Bitterene and Netley. In spring used to hear the boom of the bitterns in the reeds.

 

Yes I know the area well @NigelJ ,especially around Netley Abbey as we use to have friends living there close to Southampton Water. Bitterns certainly make a noise don't they!!

I was quite surprised and saddened to hear that they were gone from that area by the mid 90's.
The whole area has had a lot of development since I was there.
