Up until recently, my main hobby was the restoration and sale of old GP race bikes along with a few road bikes thrown in.

The following is a few examples.

You will have to forgive my tatty lawn!! :hehe:

:thumb: Wow some super bikes & very nice restorations Eddie.. Did you road-race them.???? We used to restore old English bikes. We both had bikes & our daughter used to be pillion... He was BSA & Triumph & I had Royal Enfields...!! Other half used to do grass track racing until injury forced him to stop back in the early 90s.. :thumb:

    Grass track, are you mad!:D

I've done trials and found it very boring, and spent many happy times racing with Bemsee in SS400 and GP250, but grass track is for nutters!!:D
Strangely, my old BSA M21 was one of the few bikes that I wished that I had kept
I used to love the un hurried pace of it. And country lanes were never more enjoyable.:)

I don't have any digital pictures of me racing, just a couple of scanned photos. I packed it in for several reasons. Firstly I couldn't afford it, then I had two very big crashes, which gave me the wake up call that my passion wasn't fair on my wife and daughter. Then very sadly, the son of my best friend was killed. I packed it in there and then. I met some lovely people while racing, and the paddock atmosphere was just so much fun. I'll always miss it, but family is more important.:)

:yho:Oh brilliant to see Eddie.. I don't have any digital pics & no scanner at present but will see what I can do.. He raced a Triumph Tiger 110 in vintage road races & was often seen out at vintage meets at Castle Coombe before he went to grass track.. Yes you are right they are nutters in grass track Eddie..
This was the last year he competed, but sadly we watched this together as spectators due to his injuries & he wasn't allowed to ride competitively again..
[yt]_Nut0u2MFiU[/yt] It takes a minute to load....

We rode bikes on the road for a while but the enjoyment was gone so now we are bike less..!!!!:cry:He has a BSA Road Rocket & a Gold Star & I had a 350cc Royal Enfield Bullit cafe race style & a 500cc Royal Enfield Meteor Minor.. Ah those were the days.......:luv: Ooh getting all nostalgic now... :dh:

Fantastic job, real works of art.

Not wishing to hi-jack your thread, but our youngest son has turned this.

Thanks for the video, I enjoyed that.:) For some reason, the name Rob Fortune sounded very very familiar to me. A few of my friends have competed and won at grass track, but just watching it frightens me.:D I love the bikes, and the simplicity of them, but that's it for me.

I've never been to Castle Coombe, but I did my fair share of grass track when I got it wrong!!:hehe:
After one particular incident at brands, I remember being called up to the race control tower and being told that perhaps my riding style might suit a different class!!:D

I agree about bikes and road riding. After racing, I found that I hated riding on the road and packed it in, as the enjoyment had gone. My wife even rode as a pillion on my ZZR1100 up until she was 7 months pregnant. It just somehow never seemed dangerous back then.

I can't see me ever getting another bike, but trying to find something to get the same adrenaline fix is impossible.

WOW!!! That is stunning, how about some more details of the vehicle and also some about your son. You must be very proud of him.

Yes Rob Fortune & Dave Norris often rode in the pre '75 races if I remember Eddie...:thumb: Grass track is mad but great fun as well, but today riding bikes are a thing of the past in our house too now.. Sad but there we are.. My friend rode pillion until about 7months pregnant ten the bump stuck out too far & pushed her off the seat...!!:hehe: But those days are long gone now I think.. :D

    :thmb: Very nice doghouse..
