Its not so much about whether they can afford to use laser printers, its about whether they can afford not to.

Laser printers are faster and give much better quality output, and the toners last much longer than ink cartridges.

Imagine an office of say 30 people all sharing one inkjet. More time would be spent servicing it than using it, and as for the impression it would give to outside clients/partners etc, imagine a huge corporation trying to uphold a reputation for quality when it sends out blurred letters with the ink fading as you read down the page, unless the letter was the first one printed after a service that is.

I'm a self employed trainer and print around 10,000 copies a year. BUT my toners still last. Probably change the black once a year and the colour will last about 3 or 4 as I use spot colour but not much full colour.

Yes a full new set cost around £300 but it's still much cheaper and better quality than messing around with little cartridges that run out as soon as you look at them.

Colour lasts about a year after it tells me it's empty black around 6 months I guess. I found a site that gave me the codes for telling the printer to treat it as new toner to stop it interrupting me all the time trying to persuade me to change.

I don't think it needs to be choice of "feast or famine," I doubt if I'd make 10,000 copies in twenty years.... I should live that long!
From what I've read, most people are happy with what they've got. (Unless it's a Lexmark!)

My main point is about how ridiculously expensive are branded cartridges and that what I use at a fraction of the cost, have produced just as good a quality in the best part of the last three years, as the original set.
