Seen Friday near Praia de Benagil, about 30 minutes from us, six Orcas were seen two males and four females.

Orca is a member of the larger dolphin family and is a versatile super predator, which includes prey such as fish, molluscs, birds, turtles, seals, sharks and larger animals when hunting in groups, such as whales .

It is the second mammal with the largest geographical area - just after man - found in all oceans and can weigh up to nine tons.

Wonder how they tell the males from the females?
Is that unusual for them to be in that area?

      Orcas: Killer Beauties - Characteristics

Not really but we do get wild Dolphins. Where we like to go on holiday, to the Sado Estuary region (Palmela and Setubal) on the West Coast South of Lisbon, there is a permanent pod of bottle-nosed Dolphins (all named). This is the bay at Portinho where they play and are tagged.

@pete Sorry, what I meant was It IS unusual for us to get them down here (the Orcas), we normally just have the Dolphins (Golfinhos). I think they are all fascinating. There is a roundabout in Albufeira for them as you can take boat tours to see them.

We also have the Chicken & Grapes roundabout in Guia as it is famous for Piri-Piri Chicken :chicken:and Wine (more specifically Cliff Richard's Vineyard there). :drunk:

I think we had a pod of Dolphins in the Medway a while ago, that is unusual I think.
Not heard of Orcas yet, but give us time.

I have only seen a few Dolphins off the coast at Swanage in the last few years, a pod of Orcas would be nice.
