    It's time for some new patio furniture and I'm finding it tricky to decide between teak 8 seated set, or equivalent, or something rattan which is cheaper and looks comfy... Anyone have experience of either or recommendations?

      Well, I tend to go for the folding fabric chair patio sets :smile:, because:

      - they are cheap;
      - I can change to a new colour every year or so;
      - they have high seats making them easy to get in and out of;
      - they don't need to be maintained;
      - they can be left outside all Winter;
      - you can buy fitted cushions which make them more comfy;
      - they are level with the matching table - so easy to eat from.

      If I could afford it, I'd go for the teak :blue thumb: - I tend to associate rattan with conservatory furniture.

        Agree...if you can afford the teak, that's the best. They will last forever......well almost.

          The teak is lovely . But if it is only teak effect i.e stained it does take some maintaining. They do tend to look a little dowdy after 3 years . The modern plastic rattan/weave effect furniture would be my choice . Ours looks as good as new after 8 years . I just store it in the garage November to March.

          Still looking around - there's so much choice! Am looking at a few more places tonight and hoping to find a couple of teak options

          We had problems with teak furniture, our patio gets very hot and it makes the sticky sap come out of the wood, so that needed regularly cleaning off. In the end we sold them and now have aluminium chairs (cheap as chips from Lidl) and an extending steel mesh table from B&Q - they have been outside for the last 4 years - no need to store them away overwinter and they still look like new:

            We've been looking at garden furniture too. I have a lovely dining set, but I want a lounge set, for under the gazebo. A friend of mine has bought from this company and is very pleased with what she's got. Don't know what she bought, though. Hope it's ok to add this link?

              Always OK to help with links, thanks.

              OK this rattan stuff - the prices vary wildly for basically the same thing. What gives? Why is one set so much more expensive or cheaper than another?

              Good point on the teak stuff John, I do have a couple of chairs already and similar experience

                We've had a variety of teak garden furniture for years and never had that sort of problem. If it had occurred with ours then I would have got them to change it as it shouldn't happen.

                One of our teak tables just had a couple of slats warp slightly. I complained, and sent photos, and asked for some new slats and a small amount to pay for a chippy to fit them. They sent me a new table and told me that I could keep the old one! :yay:

                  Wow @shiney that's great customer service. I'd love to have really good wooden furniture outside, but my cats tend to use it as a scratching post, so won't look good for long. I've worried that they'll do the same to rattan, but I think most have a resin style protective covering on them. :scratch:

                    I'd still be inclined to look at teak and have scratch guards for the legs. I'm sure that you can get clear ones so the legs don't look silly.

                    Nice patio sets in Asda yesterday . I wonder how long it is before they and others have a special sale. They can't be moving much product in this miserable summer.

                      We went for teak in the end! SWMBO was happiest with that so we negotiated a deal with a local supplier
