    Hi,

my Swiss chard is steadily being infested with a small black beetle. There are also patches of dark grey or black slimy stuff that will rub off in water. The beetle/black stuff doesn't seem to be harming the leaf in anyway at the moment.

They could be flea beetles, they certainly look very flea-like but they don't seem to leap about like fleas.

My eyesight isn't what it was, but they look more like blackfly to me. A few drops of washing up liquid in water in a sprayer, and then spray the leaves with that.

Others with more experience/knowledge will no doubt be along shortly though :)

From the white markings on some they look like Black Bean aphids. (AKA Blackfly), a their nympth stage.
