The wind was gusting to 63mph here today, should I pick the apples off the tree and let them ripen indoors, or risk them blowing off

We picked most of ours a couple of weeks ago and wrapped them in paper in boxes. They'll ripen and keep for 3 or 4 months. The problem with fallen apples is bruising - if that happens they'll not keep for long. We've been eating the fallen ones and also dehydrating them for use after we've used up the 'whole' stored ones. Our main apple tree has bark chips beneath it so fallen apples tend to have a soft landing!

You could also turn the wind falls into cider or apple juice.

    My vote's on the cider:D:thmb:

Years ago we used to make apple wine from our fallen apples - great stuff, but we never managed to keep it long enough to really mature:wink:
