    Hi all,

I need help identifying the following plant, there are a number of them around a pond in a house I rent and I need to trim them back so they look tidy. I don't know what it is, nor do I know how to trim / prune it so I could do with loads of advice!

I am a complete beginner, so please consider any advice useful and if you can give as many details as possible as I no doubt need them.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Felzilla,

What you have there is Carex pendula, a native grass which is sometimes planted in gardens and seeds like mad, becoming quite invasive. Personally, I'm not too keen on it and remove it in most cases. There is not much you can do with it pruning wise, only reduce it by digging some out.
It is not that easy to dig out either, a mattock is the best tool for that job.
