I scored about 200 off freecycle last week!

Seriously though - Kristens your man. He posted a similar question a few weeks ago.

Go to your local Home Base they have bins of pick up for free
some are just trays that held plant pots but you can use those with chips in the bottom to stop total drainage

Some garden centres and most plant nurseries usually have bins for returns.

For the future, just let everyone you know that they can get rid of their old pots by dropping them off at your place - but be careful what you ask for, you may get more than you bargained for :heehee:

We said that some years ago and this is what happens:-

Apart from 3,000 x 3.5" pots I've already stacked in the shed I've had to clean out a few others as well

Can you imagine how long it took to clean out over 6,000 pots :hate-shocked:. Very few had been cleaned and many had soil, roots, snails, slugs and other creepy crawlies in them. As a lot of them had just been stuffed inside each other (of various sizes) the muck in them had been compressed and stuck to the pot. Scraping the muck out took a long time and being very careful to avoid hurting the spiders in their nests added to that time. apologising to the spiders took even more time. :)

Blimey! That must have taken a long time shiney!

I had a good sort out and clean of mine a month ago, filled and old dustbin with water with a dash of bleach and detergent and left them for 1/2 an hour. Then scrubbed each one out, then repeated that process a few times, took me several hours just to a few hundred I guess - although it wasn't non-stop. Mind you it did get rid of the dirt under me fingernails for once :)

I can just see that working with Mrs Shiney :nonofinger::runforhills:

John, I didn't wash them as I can't do much bending. I was able to stand at the table and empty the rubbish into the bucket and give them a quick rub round with a gloved hand. It still took hours and hours. :rolleyespink:

Quite a few more than 200 in a pack, but these are possibly the cheapest pots around and work out at 0.6p each incl P&P:

As they're flexible they can be a bit squishy if picking them up when full of some 'fluffy' compost. They're very compact in storage - that's 20 on the right hand side of the pic below. Ideal for plants for sale if you haven't got an endless supply of free pots.

Anybody know of a cheaper source of new pots?

I carefully washed a whole load of pots a few weeks ago and offered them to the local garden centre but they say they only ever buy in new because they have a certain size! (I think more than 50% of mine came from them in the first place). Then I asked at the local recycling depot as they make and sell compost from green waste, they said they couldn't take them to give away but I could put them in the skip. I live in Carmarthenshire too, I could pass some on to you but mine are mostly about 1 litre, not small ones. Let me know if you want them & we can see how to pass them on.
