      Nice find...well done.
Maybe with global temps changing one day we will find it growing in UK!

      It is Caesalpinia gilliesii.

Quote wiki....."It is a striking ornamental plant native to South America, mainly Argentina and Uruguay. It is naturalized in Texas, and fairly common in the rest of the southwestern United States, where it is known as bird of paradise bush, desert bird of paradise, yellow bird of paradise, and barba de chivo."

      EEECK! Correction...blinking name change ...sorry.

      Now re named Erythrostemon gilliesii.

I grew it for over 20yrs on the west facing wall of my house, last year it flowered exceptionally well in the hot summer.

Sadly it died this year, but left me lots of seed to experiment with.
It was fairly spectacular when in flower.

Pete. That really is fab, even without flowers, I'd bet it looks great. First time I've seen it.
