Planter advice complete novice !

    Any ideas on what to do
    With this please I’d like some all year round colour and also grow some herbs and garlic .

    Hi,

    Well you can have colour and herbs in there, though not sure about garlic bulbs, perhaps suited more to open ground.

    For herbs you want soil or compost but with at least 30% of added grit as they like it on the free draining side and in a sunny spot.

    Chives will grow up and give nice flowers, best to have two clumps so ones growing while ones in flower.
    Thyme growing over the edge of the planter and some Rosemary, which is best rooted every other year as they can get quiet big.
    Mint is possible, but you need to put it in a pot to contain its roots before placing in the planter.

    If you like Garlic, then look out for Garlic Chives, a slightly bigger but much stronger version of the standard Chives.

    Many other herbs depending on your taste .....

    You could add in some Marigolds to add a splash of colour.
