I have an elder tree at the back of my garden - it has never been great, but this year it is looking particularly sorry for itself - I suspect that it being as close as it is to the thief (evergreen) in the corner is the main reason.

I was looking at it earlier, and the space to the left of the laurel that is to it's left, and wondering if it might be time to say goodbye to the elder and put a new tree - an apple tree maybe - in that hole to the left of the laurel?

    Is this elder worth saving?

Get it out FC but take cuttings ....they root quickly :)
Life is too short to keep that elder so get something in you really want. :)

Would I want cuttings @Verdun? I don't have any desire for an elder tree, and the whole time I have been here, I haven't touched the blossom or the berries?

I agree, it's not worth keeping FC.
