My Cocker, Bramble, has a really bad habit of chewing stones..... something I just can't stop. She has been very quiet this afternoon, and had just been sick - bringing up a load of stones, most very small, but one the size of a dessert spoon.  I am hoping she has brought them all up, but if she hasn't perked up, I'll take her for an emergency x-ray in the morning.......... :( :( (she also has a squitty bot......)

.... or should I call the emergency vet.....

(cost no problem - she's fully insured...)

Don't think its an emergency, our late dog used to eat plenty of stones, never used to bother him! ;)

HI HONEY BEE Hopefully Bramble will be sick again or pass them thru the other end.If theres no improvement by morning i would get her to the vets, they can give something to make them sick.
But an xray would show anything in stomach or bowels.Good luck i hope she's fit soon!

I did see a TV pets program where a stone eating labrador had got so bunged up with stones she had to have an operation to remove them! So perhaps if she isn't better in the morning she ought to go to the vet.

The other problem with stone eating is that they can break their teeth.

why is she doing it - does she have a mineral dificiency. My Molly used to eat John Innis no. 3 it was the start of a problem to do with a vitamin B defficiency.

go to the vet to get checked, but do ask "why".

Hello everyone - thanks for your concerns!!!

I have an appointment to see the vet in an hours time. After being quite ill and floppy for a couple of hours Sunday, she suddenly jumped up and was right as rain!!!!! Scoffed her dinner and tore around like a looney!!

Its a habit she has always had - I liken it to a baby sucking their thimb - she has to chew!!! She very rarely has chewed things in the house, but as soon as we go outside, she has to get a stone!! I am forever forraging around in her mouth to get them out!!! Anyway, shall see what the vet has to say.........
