Just been to round the 'girls' up to take them to their run.....my special little follower was missing....looked round and saw Little Poppy chook slowly waddling up behind me....picked her up and noticed her belly was squishy and warm....a classic sign of egg peritonitis:sad:seems like her egg laying tackle has gone off course....i've had a rummage:whistle: can't feel any broken shell but have give her a 'steam' over some warm water ....she's all dried and warm now so have put her to bed hoping against hope it might 'move' her....her eyes are bright and her comb nice and red and she's chattering away but i'm not holding out much hope:sad:....i'll see how she gets on over night before i make any rash decisions ....my hearts in my boots right now...i do love my chooks...and now i can't see to type:doh:

Oh how I can empathise: poor Poppy and poor Loli!! :grphg:

Be gentle with yourself, Loli. You have done all that you possibly can for the moment.

I've been known to put my poorly chooks into the cat carrier and keep them in my room overnight when they have been poorly, so I totally understand how you must be feeling.

:grphg: keeping my fingers crossed here for Poppy, I kept birds (not chooks) for many years and I know how fragile they can be.

Sorry to hear about Poppy, Loli. Would antibiotics do any good? There seems to be a lot of advice on the Internet about keeping ABs in stock to treat chickens quickly for all sorts of ills. Keeping my fingers crossed for her....

                      Thank you everyone:grphg:....

I'm just as cross at not noticing before now, although these things can take time to show of any symptoms...The 'girls' egg laying have been a bit hit and miss of late but some are on a moult and what with Bonfire night which usually throws them off...i usually get Anti-B's from the vets but unfortunately it's only delayed the inevitable but will give it a try...i've even gone down the 'draining 'route but if something has gone a miss in the 'egg production' department they just fill up again...One of my old chooks that had this was given a scan by the vet and it turned out she had a growth that was knocking the eggs off course....
I'll see how she is this morning and go from there....

Pleased to say Poppy is completely cured:yes::dancy:....after a couple of 'steam baths' she laid an egg....so she was egg bound not suffering from EP...although the symptoms are very similar....

Thanks for all your well wishes:dbgrtmb::chicken:
