I've just got some first earlies, Arran Pilot and Home Guard and a second early, Charlotte for this year. I've just started chitting the first earlies. How's about the second early, should I start chitting this now or try and hold this back for a bit?

To my mind you are a bit early if growing outdoors.
    What is your location?

I only grow maincrop, but I'm sure others will reply.

Thanks for the swift response pete. I'm on the south Devon coast and things are starting to warm up down here already. We may, of course, get some frosts this year but they are usually mild and infrequent.

I grow my potatoes in bags on the paths and patio as I've no other space for them. I like the earlies for the taste and texture and don't have space for a decent main crop planting so I rely on markets and the greengrocer for them.
