Potato Problem

    I have a tray of potato's in my garden shed chitting and the sprouts are now quite long as they have been there now for about six weeks.I went up to the allotment yesterday to see what the ground was like and I believe it will take at least a month to dry out that is if it stays dry for that long.I have three potato bag's and two half barrel containers.The bags are empty so will need soil the half barrels have the soil left from last year so will need topping up.Would it be better to plant the potato's in these containers now or try and wait untill the ground dries out.These are main crop potatos.

    I usually wait till Easter to plant mine, it depends where you are in the country - if in a sheltered mild place you might get away with planting now just be prepared to fleece. Have you a greenhouse? They would be OK planted in containers then shift them out in May when all fear of frost has passed.

    Are they in the dark?
    Usually the sprouts only get long if the spuds are in the dark.

    Main Crop should be ok for another month I would think.
