    Hi,

Im going to put raised beds in my garden in the next few days. They are going to be laid on an area which is currently grass with no weeds. Do I need to lift the grass and then put weed killer or some kind of treatment down before I fill the raised beds with soil or once I remove the grass am I good to fill the raised bed with a compost/top soil mix?

    Thanks

Certainly no need for weedkiller and you could get away with no preparation at all. Although I think it would be better to dig it over first to encourage roots to get further down into the existing soil layer. Just slice off the grass and turn the sods upside down. If it's covered by at least 18" of soil the grass won't re-grow. The old grass will rot down and provide nutrients for the new plants.

Hello, I have the beds built at last. There was a bit of a delay because of a timber company messing me around with prices, the wood also needed to dry out and I also caught a virus. I will upload some pics. I just tried but it didn't work as the photo was too large so I need to find a way to shrink it down but I am ready to plant....I just need a dry day!
