One of my Pear trees which is about two years old has no sign of any fruit and the leaves look in a really bad state photos enclosed. Can anyone tell what the problem is and can it be cured.I am just going to look in some of my gardening books to see if there is anything in about this. The only thing I can see in the books is Pear Leaf Blister Mite it says the damage is largely cosmetic and does not seriously damage the cropping but there are no sign of any fruit on the tree.

Hi @paul It is too late for this year, I think you some mites there too.. You could mix up some bicarbonate of soda and soap and warm water and spray if it’s not too much..
Then when the leaves have dropped in winter spray your trees with a winter wash..
    How to winter wash trees
I personally use the vitax one and follow the instructions on the bottle.. It really does make a huge difference..
You will have nice healthy trees next year..

I usually prune mine in late winter before the buds begin to swell. You might want to spray the wash again about a week after doing that.. Earlier pruning may encourage excessive vegetative growth and few flowers and sometimes suckering and you don’t want that..

So I would mix this up for now..
1 heap tsp. baking soda 1 desert sp vegetable oil 1 tsp. dish soap to a 1 warm water adjust for smaller amounts.. This will help to smother mires and bugs for nowThis can of course be used cold but more effective in smaller amounts and warm.. Hope that is of some help..

I have now removed all the leaves fro the tree and put them in my incinerator to burn.If I want to get the following in the garden center what do I ask for.

mixture of plant oils, diluted with water – you’ll find the concentrated solution in garden center

Vitax Winter Tree Wash which you dilute and spray on the tree between November and February and Vitax Fruit Tree Grease.I think the first one is best any ideas. Thanks

Hi @Paul Blackburn yes I use the winter tree wash and grease o. The trunk and both work well for me and I also use a coddling moth trap March To May. Good luck for next year now then.

As the leaves were in a very bad state I took them off and burnt them so what should I do now.I was going to use the winter tree wash but when is the best time to use it.I was told between November and February.I only have a normal hand spray would that be suitable.

Yes wait until November and use the wash as directed.. It these have not been in the ground long just make sure they don’t dry out in this hot weather as it will stress them... I use a pump up hand sprayer and just perfect
