Following on from the recent patio and gazebo works, thoughts now turn to the other part of the garden, which is in a hell of a state if truth be told. Please bear in mind that I did the grand total of NO gardening last year (for various reasons, which many of you are aware), hence the state:

Can you see where I lobbed a packet of grass seed and feed which had gone solid in the box? :heehee:

This morning, I ordered 15 of the log rolls from Wilko, thanks to @toppington for pointing me in the right direction :) - they will be delivered tomorrow.

The action plan thereafter, is as follows:
    • Cut the grass (I use the term 'grass' loosely)
    • Run the sprinkler to soften the ground
    • Using tent pegs (being delivered tomorrow) and some string, mark out the desired lines for the border edges
    • Re-claim the borders from the grass, and get them weeded
    • Plant up borders (at long last emptying the greenhouse :snork:)
    • Install log roll edging
    • Lay new slate by step from patio onto grass
    • Weed and Feed grass (using Evergreen mixture)
    • Once weed and feed has taken effect, scarify the lawn
    • Over-seed with Poundland's seed and feed mix
    • Water, water, water......

I won't get all that much done tomorrow as the car is going in for a recall in the afternoon, but I have the rest of this week off, so hopefully by the weekend I will have things looking much better and be left with only the longer game for the grass. Of course, updated photos will follow.

        Sounds like a plan! :dbgrtmb:

If you need a hand, I could make myself available for a day or three?

NB: my offer has nothing to do with the fact my stinky plant has five flower heads this year and is just about to open :nonofinger:

I shall bear your kind offer in mind @"M" - although, my plans may be on hold as I have just volunteered my services if any emergency coaches are required to help with the relief effort around the horrendous tower block fire. :frown:

From what I learned the other week, I would not scarify the lawn until next Spring. At least, not if it was using a spring tine scarifier...

I have the choice @Sandy Ground - it has a spring tine barrel or a knife barrel; however, I bow to your superior knowledge - if it is not the right time to do it, I will content myself with the weeding, feeding and re-seeding.

@fat controller not superior knowledge, just what they explained at the Horticultural Uni. Being 100% honest, I'm not sure how climate differences between here and the will affect things. One thing they did recommend was checking soil pH values during the season, and if under 7, raise them to that level by liming in autumn.

Then, in Spring, feed the lawn. When it is actively growing, and has been cut twice, scarify using the knife barrel. After clearing the debris overseed using the seed of your choice mixed in with dressing. Feed twice more during the year, with a fertiliser that slightly raises the pH.

Truly shocking @"M" - and a prime example of why there should be NO residential blocks over three stories high in my opinion. I only wish there was something more I could do, but sadly I fear that it is a case of looking on in horror and praying for everyone involved.

I haven't taken any pics, but things already look better now the grass is cut and things are tidied up a bit. Hopefully, tomorrow will see a few big strides taken to get me nearer to where I want to be.

I have had the sprinkler running for a few hours to water everything and hopefully soften the ground a bit, and all the log roll and pins have arrived today, along with a nice new lump hammer, so hopefully I will get on tomorrow.

Early on today, I had an Oh Sh*t moment:

                              IMAG0117.jpg
I noticed that I had been putting the edging in upside down!

That done, I carried on past MÜLLER 1 and on to MÜLLER 2 (both fruit corners ;)), however by the time I got past the plum tree and onto the 'hot' bed, I had to give up trying to put the edging in as the ground was bone dry and rock solid - clearly, I should have put the sprinkler on that side last night.

Anyhow, I did all the rest of the work with the exception of the very back border (Logan's Run) which will require two of us to tie up all the loganberry stems. I am burnt to a crisp, every joint is killing me, my back is telling me that it is broken (but I think it is lying to me), and I was so hot out there today that I am glad my bum has a crack in it or else I would have drowned. :snork:

Here is where we are now:
