I have been wondering about making some fruit salad type things, in bulk, and then freezing them with a view for them to be taken to work where they can gently thaw a bit during the course of a morning to be a sort of fruity ice lolly type lunchy thing.

I know that some of the fruit will break down a bit due to the freezing, but that will add to the slushy goodness?

I have the foil type takeaway containers that I can use, which will also serve to eat from, so that bit is OK. What I was thinking is chunking up the fruits, distributing them between the number of containers, then pouring in a bit of juice - maybe orange, although I do have some cartons of tropical juice which is quite pleasant and not too over-powering. I have a fridge full of fruit to do this later today, which includes strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, pineapple, apple, orange, blueberries, grapes and apple.

Does this sound as thought it would work?

Sounds like a great idea for the summer :blue thumb: Cool, refreshing and minimum food waste as nothing is forgotten rotting in the fruit bowl or fridge.

Maybe it would be better to use plastic containers though, the acid from the fruit might react with the foil over time.

Shredded carrot and other root veg are also good frozen. They become much juicier. And it's not forbidden to mix fruit and veg for some variety :)

Yes use a different container to aluminium as the sugars and acids in the fruit will react with it.. Plastic if nothing else, or maybe get yourself a collection of glass or china containers that will hold the right amount and freeze.. Much healthier than aluminium or plastic.. ;)

Ah, too late this time around - I only had the ally ones to hand, and have done the deed..... there are 9 nestled in the freezer now (with a few wee nibbles in my belly as we went along making them up!) I will post back how they work out as a frozen treat.
